Day 0 – 09/19/2013 – From Seattle to Coos Bay

I left Seattle after working for about half a day at around 10 AM. That allowed me to be in Eugene 2 hours before the last bus to Coos Bay. So I set the GPS to the covered parking lot near the Greyhound station in Eugene, and traveled South on I-5, took the express lanes, and then traffic just came to a complete halt. The normal lanes were moving as fast as the speed limit, and I was standing still at the express lanes. Why?

After wasting almost an hour on the “express” lanes, I finally got moving again. My arrival margin had shrunk by an hour or so.

Fortunately, the rest of the trip was uneventful. I arrived some 90 minutes before the bus to Coos Bay was scheduled to leave. I parked  the car on a covered parking area, assembled my gear on the bike, removed the rack from the back of the car, and off I went to the bus station. I got there, confirmed my travel arrangements at the counter, and went off for some coffee and pastries.

About half an hour prior to departure I went back to the Greyhound bus station, and waited for the bus to arrive. It was then that I realized, this was my first time ever at a Greyhound bus station. It was a weird experience. I carefully observed all the different people at the station. They were all from different walks of life.

The bus ride took about 90 minutes, andby sunset I had arrived at Coos Bay. I checked in at the motel, went for a beer and dinner, then back to the room. Before I called it a night, I made sure that everything was prepared and ready to go in the morning. It was then that I realized I had forgotten only one thing – oil for my new chain. Not too bad for a trip that was put together as fast as this one was.
