Day 4 – Los Arcos to Najeras

Today we left the hotel early and had breakfast at a panaderia across from the hotel.
There wasn’t a single cloud in the sky. That meant that the morning was cold and the day was to be very hot. An indeed it was.
We started on fast ride only to be greeted by climbs on unforgiving roads. The roads had lots of loose gravel that lead to our bikes to have no traction and our cycling shoes to be almost useless.
Despite all that we arrived in Viana by 9:30 AM where we stopped for a cafe con leche and a visit to the local church.
After that we went towards Logrono. On the way we had to push our bikes trhu a very difficult climb. And without asking other pelegrinos just helped us conquer the hill. That was really cool!
The way there was by far the ugliest part of the journey so far. Very industrial and blend. Arriving at Logrono was a relief.
There we bought some bread, cold cuts, cheese and a soda so we could have lunch at a park. During lunch, disaster! I broke my front tooth while biting a piece of ham. Argh!
After recovering from the accident we resumed our journey towards Najeras. This time the heat was overwhelming. I had to stop a couple times because I felt overheated.
The way to Ventosa was on a long and steady uphill road. The road was very sandy and rocky at times making it even lmore tiring – a real bitch of a road to go thru.
After a well deserved couple of cold sodas in Ventosa we had a few more kilometers on a sandy road. After that the road conditions improved and we were back to top speed towards Najeras.
Upon arriving we quickly found a hotel took a well deserved shower and went foor a couple of beer/wine and dinner.
That’s it for today. Wish us a buen camino for tomorrow.
